Exhibition Matisse Picasso

Guillaume Apollinaire, to the occasion of the first joint exposition devoted to Matisse and Picasso to the gallery Paul Guillaume in January 1918, will express itself thus:

"One has just had the idea more rare and the most unforeseen, the one to make fun in a same exposition the two masters more fine and that represent the two big opposed tendencies of the contemporary art. One guessed that it is a henri matter Matisse and of Pablo Picasso. The work bursting first one opens again ways to the impressionnisme and one feels well that this vein of the big French paint is far to be exhausted. The other to the opposite, show that this rich perspective is not the alone that opens to the artist and to the amateur and that the concentrating art that gave cubism, this aesthetic contemporary éminemment relatees itself by Degas, by Ingres to the traditions more high of the art ..."
