House of Victor Hugo

Victor Hugo, thirty years old, will rent of 1832 to 1848 an apartment of 280 m² to the second floor of the rohan- guéménée hotel. It there will make fun his woman Adèle, born Foucher, and their four children, Léopoldine, Charles, françois- victor and Adèle. Author to successes, already having published Hernani and Our Paris Lady, it there will write someone of its major works among which ones Marries Tudor, Ruy Jade, The Burgraves, The Songs of the twilight, internal Voices, The Rays and the shadows, a big party of the Miserable ones, the beginning of The Legend of the centuries and Contemplations. The literary success will accompany itself social ascension. Hugo will become academician, even of France and representative.

Paul Meurice, intimate friend and enforcer testamentaire of the writer, will bequeath in 1902 the funds of the collections of the museum, constituted books, drawings, pictures, objects and furnish. The inauguration of the House of Victor Hugo will take place June 30 1903. The rooms of the apartment occupied by the author, réaménagées in 1983, do not reflect the origin installations.
