Ernest Cognacq extinguishes itself February 21 1928, to the age of 89 years. The founder of The Samaritan one had begun about 1895 a collection of paints, graphic arts, sculptures and art objects. In accordance with his will, the Paris City was designated as légataire of this collection as well as building destined by his donor to welcome it, to the 25 boulevards of the Nasturtiums. The choice of Cognacq had concerned itself a joint building of The Samaritan one of Luxury. This store of trains new Art, been born collaboration of Jourdain with the architect Georges Bourneuf, was opened since 1917 for an easier clientele than the one of The Samaritan one Bridge Nine. The museum cognacq- jay was inaugurated June 4 1929 by the president of the Republic Gaston Doumergue, in the presence of Gabriel Cognacq, small nephew and ernest heir Cognacq. The Samaritan one of Luxury, closed since 1981, was sold in 1985. Shortly after was decided in 1986 of the transfer of the collections of the museum towards the hotel Donon that had to be renovated. The museum of the boulevard of the Nasturtiums has therefore closed its harbors June 27 1988. Situated in the neighborhood of the Marsh, the new museum cognacq- jay is opened to the public since December 18 1990.
