Eiffel Tower

Paris is home to the one of the tallest building in the world which is the Eiffel Tower. This tower was built with iron and serves as the most known landmark of France. This was named after Gustave Eiffel, an engineer who designed the tower. Standing at 324 meters high, this tower was previously the tallest building in the 1800 till the early 30s. Eiffel maybe a world renown icon of Paris but did you know that it was first planned to be built in Barcelona?

Basilique du Sacre-coeur

Called Basilica of the Sacred heart, a Roman Catholic basilica is another global icon of Paris. This is located in the highest part of the city Montmartre. It was Paul Abadie who designed the basilica after winning a contest of more than 77 aspiring architects. The foundation was first laid in the year 1874. Architech Abadie did not get to witness the completion of the basilica for he has died in 1884. Basilique du Sacre-coeur was finally completed in 1914.
